As I am in mourning, I will not be making any New Year's greetings.
There will be no New Year's food either, and I will be quietly welcoming the New Year.
This does not mean that we are drowning in sadness, but living quietly is a way of showing respect for the dead, I think.
By the way, as the new year arrives, calligraphers perform their first calligraphy of the year. (It called "Kakizome")

寒梅三両枝 修竹影参差 悟得昔耶法 江村月暁時
This is a Chinese poem written alongside a picture of a plum tree.
It brings to mind images of plum blossoms blooming on a spring night and the swaying shadows of bamboo.
I hope this will be a peaceful year.
喪中なので、新年の挨拶は行いません。
おせち料理も無く、静かに新年を迎えています。
これは私たちが悲しみに沈んでいるということではなく、死者への敬意を静かに暮らすことで表しているのだろうと思います。
ところで、新しい年を迎えると書家は書初めを行います。
私の今年の書初めはこれです。
寒梅三両枝 修竹影参差 悟得昔耶法 江村月暁時
これは梅の絵に書き添えられた漢詩です。
春の夜に咲く梅の花と、竹の影が揺れている様子が、思い浮かびます。
今年が穏やかな一年になりますように。
